Ultimatrix
The ultimate evolution of the Omnitrix, granting Ben godlike alien forms.
The Ultimatrix is a highly advanced genetic transformation device that serves as the successor to the original Omnitrix. Created by the Galvan genius Azmuth, this watch-like artifact was designed specifically for Ben Tennyson during his teenage years. It functions similarly to its predecessor but includes a unique capability known as evolution, allowing transformed aliens to adapt into more powerful 'Ultimate' versions capable of handling extreme threats.

Lore & Background
Throughout its usage, the Ultimatrix proved both a blessing and a curse. While it unlocked forms like Ultimate Humungousaur and Ultimate Spidermonkey, the forced evolution sometimes destabilized the DNA within the watch. Azmuth eventually determined that the device was too unstable for long-term use. At the end of Ben's journey with this technology, the Ultimatrix was dismantled to reset the system into a safer configuration.
In Their Own Story
The battlefield burned under an alien sun as Ben tightened his grip on the wrist device. The red eye symbol pulsed rhythmically against his skin, humming with energy that felt different from before. He twisted the dial, feeling the heat rise in his veins. A flash of green light engulfed him, and bones shifted not just into a new shape, but a stronger one. When the smoke cleared, he was no longer just an alien; he was something evolved for war.
Reader's Guide
The Ultimatrix operates by scanning alien DNA and forcibly evolving it into a more potent state known as an Ultimate form. Unlike standard transformations, this process adapts the species to survive extreme conditions or combat scenarios. However, this power comes with significant risk; if the evolution is unstable, the alien can become corrupted or lose control entirely.
Azmuth designed the technology to prepare Ben for threats beyond his current capabilities, but Albedo modified it during the device's creation. This modification allowed the watch to bypass safety protocols, pushing biological limits further than intended. While powerful, the constant evolution strain on the user was unsustainable long-term.
Ultimately, Azmuth deemed the Ultimatrix too dangerous to remain active. At the conclusion of its usage, the technology was dismantled and reset into a new Omnitrix iteration. The lesson learned emphasized that power requires balance, leading Ben to rely on his original watch with renewed wisdom and control over his transformations.
Did You Know?
- Kevin Levin temporarily stole and wore the Ultimatrix during the Alien Force saga.
- The device's faceplate features a distinct red eye symbol instead of the classic green one.
- Ultimate forms are not always stronger; sometimes they adapt to specific weaknesses like fire or cold.
- Azmuth retired the watch because it forced evolution without regard for biological safety.
